Joolie's Birthday Celebration

Here are a few pictures from Julie's birthday this year.  We celebrated with some delicious takeout from Filho's Cucina, mmm so tasty! Julie had requested an 'animal-shaped' cake... so umm, out of ideas we went with a teddy bear.  Mom proceeded to decorate the teddy bear when I wasn't looking... and I think made him into a homeless grifter/serial killer looking bear.  He tasted good at least!

This bear had a scruffy chin strap which my mom took off after my expression of horror... and then it looked like he had an even sketchier five o'clock shadow. And check out those huge googly eyes - decorating is how we get rid of old candy.  :)

Bobo may or may not have had only cheese-puffs for dinner.  Which he ate with a fork.

And here's Julie wearing a Venetian mask... hey why not, it's her birthday!

Happy 26th Birthday Joolie!!

Bobo's Birthday Part, Part 2

Continuing on with Bobo's birthday party...

After/during cake there was juice box time when all the little boys had to have their fix of Apple and Eve. :)

Arin continued to open presents throughout the day... when Grampy arrived he brought a huge Santa-bag full of toys and fun stuff. There were so many things Bobo got burned out from opening them all and couldn't even finish!

I will do another post about Bobo's exciting outdoor present later... this is what people were congregating around, especially the little kids!

One thing Bobo loved was letting balloons go! He thought this was fabulous, watching them go up higher and higher and then getting caught by wind currents and racing away into the clouds. He managed to get about four balloons loose over the course of the day. I think this qualifies as littering... sorry Mother Nature and everyone at the local airport!

And after such a fun day where it didn't even rain (though it was supposed to) Bobo sat down to watch a little Thomas, and one minute later this is what happened:

He was so tuckered out from all the fun (and lack of a nap) that he couldn't keep his little eyes open. He did wake up around 11, shoot out of bed and run out to the living room looking for his 'party' which he thought was still going on. Sadly, everyone had left and was in bed! So he had to settle for going back to sleep to dream of all the fond memories from his great party. Thanks everyone who helped ! And phew, glad that's over with!! :)

Bobo's Birthday Party, Part 1

Bobo turned 2 last Wednesday, and we had birthday fun that day (pictures to come), but his big party was on Saturday. We spent all week getting ready, cleaning up and baking treats, and then on the big day lots of friends and family came over to help Arin celebrate his birthday! He had so much fun running around with all the stuff to do and people to play with, and didn't even get a nap in... he was so exhausted from all the fun that he passed out at 8pm sharp... which is funny because that was the 'end time' I put on the facebook invite, even though we kept celebrating much later.

We got a tank of helium to blow up balloons... unfortunately Momo was blowing up some on the porch when Bobo wandered in ... just as she overfilled one and it popped. He screamed, ran out of the room and refused to go near the porch or balloons for a while! He didn't even want to greet his first guest who arrived moments later, he was too busy hiding in the living room.

Sweet and sour (sort-of) meatballs... Bobo devoured a whole plate of these, which is shocking because usually he only eats a few bites of something and is done... (even ice cream), except Momo's stuffed shells that we 'sampled' the night before, he gobbled those up too.

Bobo got so many more presents at the party! He actually loves them all (well, maybe Mommy loves the clothes he got more than he does), and has been playing with everything non-stop. He opened presents as the mood caught him throughout the day... sometimes he would even sneak a present off the table and tiptoe off into the living room to open them secretly, all by himself. Too cute!

Auntie Juju got him these adorable little flipflops, which was great because he has outgrown his Adidas sandals and his aquasocks and has nothing to wear to the beach.

We had three Mary's at the party, and two of them brought wee little babies! Look at the two little munchkins, they were sooo precious. One little muffin was brand-new, look how tiny she is in her daddy's arms!

Exhausted from all the party prep, but having a good time anyway!

The car cake I made for Bobo... it did not come out as well as I had hoped, I sort of ran out of time and it was really hot so the cake turned into a giant melty-frosting mess. I should have used the fondant! Next year. :)

When we all sang 'Happy Birthday' to Bobo he got so shy! He just got this cute little expression on his face and was looking downward not making eye contact. So adorable.

Bobo actually blew out one candle by himself! I didn't think he would be able to do it so I accidently blew out the second candle a moment after he got the first one out. Sorry cutie!

And here Bobo is helping cut the cake. I think he only ate a bite or two of it, there was just too much other stuff to do, like open presents!

Phew! More pictures coming later. ;)

Happy Birthday Bobo!

Bobo turned two years old today (this morning), where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday he was turning one:

And it doesn't seem that long before that that he was joining us in the world for the very first time:

I love you forever and ever and wish you the happiest birthday now, and for every year to come... kisses little munchkin!

Off the Face of the Earth

So we've disappeared (into hibernation) for a while, in case anyone noticed! We haven't been feeling so good around our household, and pretty much haven't gotten much done since I posted, unfortunately.

First everyone was feeling under the weather and then Arin got really miserable and sick, which turned out to be an ear infection, and after 10 days of medicine he is back to himself. Then of course I started feeling not so good and had to go to the ER where they did a billion tests, which I still don't know the results even after being to my doc twice since! So the long shot of it is that I get to see a neurologist in three weeks from feeling drugged up, disoriented and 'brain foggy'... which all might not be so bad except I have to chase around a toddler AND have a huge evil midterm I can't focus on doing... not good timing!

Other than that, here is a picture of Arin eating a homemade tortilla. :) Look at those lashes! He's such a charmer. He's going to be a real 'ladies man' as Noni says.

In other news, we're slowly, slowly trying to get ready for his birthday! He turns 2 on August 5th, I really can't believe it's been two years with my munchkin, sometimes it feels like 20 years and sometimes just a few months. We're going to have a little party here for him, I don't think many people are coming which is fine, we'll have fun anyway. I don't even know what kind of cake I'm going to make yet! Heck, I haven't even bought his present yet! :) Hopefully I'll be able to corral some help in the next two weeks to keep me as focused as my weird brain will let me be, and everything will come together for a great lot of fun for Arin.

His party is on the Sunday following the fifth, by the way, so if I haven't invited you yet eep, I'm sorry, please tell me and come! I only sent out invites on facebook, I know, really lame, so I'm sure I've missed people. We're also going to have a little thing on his real birthday, probably (again) involving cupcakes and maybe funworld or something like that.

18 Months Old

Yesterday Arin turned 18 months! We didn't really notice, but he had his appointment with his new doctor today (and didn't have to get the shots yet, lucky boy). He had a fun day this week though, Tuesday I took him to Fun World to play on the huge playground and then Julie came to join us. Afterwards we went to McDonalds so he could have some sips of coca-cola (blame my dad for getting him into this), but he was falling asleep in line from all the fun and lack of a nap! After that he got his first 'real' haircut and at least if its a bit uneven no one can blame me. I don't have the pics of his new hair yet, I'll post them later. But here are two from the last month.

In the first pic he's up on the computer chair having just stolen MY breakfast and proceeding to devour it.

And here is a typical winter night, rampaging around with one or no socks, in pj's that don't match with a sweater for warmth, and doing something silly like running fast with a santa hat covering his eyes.

BW of the Week - First

So here's the start of my Black and White of the Week project... Week 1!  Picture for Bobo's first week, taken just after he was born and finally in my arms. This entry is backdated from 2011, I will go back and try to do every week from all four years since he was born.

Here at Last!

Arin Thomas McGilvray was born on August 5th at 9:12 am. He weighed in at 7 pounds, 8 ounces (not the nine pounder they predicted!) and was 20.5 inches long. He took his time and gave us a few scares but now he's ten days old and doing great. Not to mention he's the cutest thing in the whole world. Here are some pictures from the hospital.
